Walter Fuhrmann Jr.'s Obituary
Walter Fuhrmann Jr., 83, of Columbia, MO, formerly of Clinton, IA, passed away on November 29, 2022 in his home surrounded by his family after bravely fighting a long illness. He was born December 31, 1938 in Clinton, the son of Walter and Doris Fuhrmann. He was raised and educated in Clinton, graduating from Clinton High School in 1957.
Walter served in the Air Force as an Airman Air Traffic Controller based in the Philippines for four years. He returned home and worked various jobs until he joined the Iowa State Patrol where he proudly served out of Cedar Rapids, IA. In 1974 he joined John Deere manufacturing in Davenport, IA in plant security. Walter developed and led training exercise programs for a safety management team that received many commendations. He was asked to speak on the development of this program several times in Boston, MA. Walter retired from John Deere Davenport Works in 2000.
Upon retirement Walter & Virginia moved to Cocoa, Florida where they thoroughly enjoyed retired life. He enjoyed playing golf, poker, exercising at the pool and many trips to his favorite spot at Jetty Park Beach. They traveled the country to see family & friends in their motorhome throughout the years before returning to the Midwest to join family as he took on his health challenges head on.
Surviving Walter is his loving partner, Virginia Canada, his son, James (Susan) Fuhrmann of Overland Park, KS, daughter, Teresa (Marc) Johnson of Columbia, MO, stepdaughter, Connie (Jeff) Edens of Davenport, Iowa. Walter was so proud of his six grandchildren, Nicholas Johnson, Morgan Johnson, Rayce Johnson, Derek Fuhrmann, Devin Fuhrmann, and Ethan Edens and his 2 great grandsons, Abel & Franklin Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Fred Fuhrmann, and by his brother-in-law and best friend, Alvin Bentley.
A graveside celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on December 13th at Denlow Cemetery in Denlow, MO, internment by Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home of Mountain Grove, MO. In lieu of flowers a donation could be made to the Denlow Cemetery and sent in c/o Craig-Hurtt Funeral Home, 315 North Main Street, Mountain Grove, MO 65711.
