Velma Stemmons' Obituary
Velma Stemmons, 92, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away surrounded by loved ones at Boone Landing in Columbia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will be from 10-11AM Saturday at the funeral home.
Velma M. Stemmons was born on August 4, 1924 in Howard county the daughter of Herbert V. and Luella M. Ray McKee. On February 16, 1943 , she was married to George H. Stemmons at Hillsdale, MO. Velma was a member of Mt. Woodland AME Church at Hillsdale, MO. and she took part in many activities at the church, especially when it came time to prepare dinners for a large crowd. This she especially enjoyed doing.
Velma was quiet, but went about her days doing such things as taking care of her flowers and her favorite thing was to spend Fridays and Saturday morning garage selling with her buddy Pat Graham.
Velma leaves to cherish her memory her children Joann(Harold) Curtis of Columbia, MO., and her son David(Gloria) Stemmons of Fayette, MO., two grandchildren Terry Curtis, and Corey Wright(Trisha). seven great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren, one brother-in-lae Lorenzia Stemmons, one sister-in-law India Stemmons, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers and one granddughter Tina.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to Mt. Woodland AME cemetery fund.
