I was so sorry to hear of Mattie's passing. I had the pleasure of working with her many years ago at Student Health. Always remember her big smile and positive attitude. Keeping the family in prayer.
The first time I met Mother Mattie Roberts, Minister Dorothy Russell and I went to her home in Columbia, Missouri and we sat up, literally, all night talking about the Lord Jesus and praying. Then Mattie Grace joined us and she and I ended up singing praise and worship songs. Grace remember that?
Mother Mattie loved good singing, gospel music and was sure to always supports those of us who sang around her. And of course she has produced great singing children and grandchildren too. She was always a kind, Godly woman, and full of the Holy Ghost. I can only remember love, kindness and encouragement from her. She was a kind, Godly woman, full of the Holy Ghost.
Mother Mattie will be sorely missed but I will never forget her. There were some people who thought I was one of her daughters, and I always considered that an honor. She was a mother in its truest sense. Heaven has gained a jewel!!!
May the Lord continue to comfort you Roberts family, now and always. Love your sister, Sheila Allen.
i send my condolences to the Roberts family, I was saddened to hear of your Mom"s passing. Your mom had a beautiful spirit and I was blessed by her! She reached out to me when I was afflicted a few years ago and sent prayers of encouragement.. I have many memories of visiting you all in Poplar Bluff when we would visit grandpa Archie & Aunt Ruby. Lots of fun days! I also recall you all visiting us in Chicago & my taking you all downtown to see the Sears Tower.
May the Lord continue to comfort & keep you all -

Much Love to You All !

A Life of Giving.
For almost 24 years, it has been my privilege to be be a son-in-law to Mattie Roberts. I remember a sunny day back in June of 1992 when I first met my future mother-in-law. She was so kind, loving and wanted me to feel comfortable meeting the whole family for the first time. Over the years, I saw a theme emerge that really defined her as a person. To me, she was above all, a giver. Wherever there was need, whether it be in her family or in the community, she gave of herself. Mom cared not for the treasures of this world, but for the people that God had put around her.
As a young Father and Husband of one of her precious daughters, Mom was ever so patient with me. I recall in those early years how she encouraged us so much as a couple and for our daughters; giving of her time, love and wisdom. She was a lifesaver in so many ways.Through my daughter, Anessa’s cancer she was a rock of prayer and encouragement. When the girls were older, she came to see their performances year after year as their biggest fan. In her eyes, they were superstars. She had an unwavering faith and belief in all of her grandchildren. She sought to offset the difficulties and pain that this life brought with unwavering love and kindness. Her legacy and influence will be felt for generations to come.
In the final week of Mom’s life, the Lord gave us an opportunity to say goodbye and to give to her words of life and encouragement. Even then, when the pain of her body was increasing, her focus and attention was on those who would be left behind. I am a witness to a woman who put her faith and trust in Jesus and believed that she would be healed, either in this life or the one to come. She is now rejoicing in her new heavenly ‘healed’ body with the Lord!
“So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Cor. 5:6,7.
With Great Affection,
Christopher
