Hazel Jones' Obituary
Hazel Jones, 97, of Columbia slept into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, Ocotber 27, 2010 at The Bluffs. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 6, 2010 at Second Missionary Baptist Church with Dr. Clyde Ruffin officiating, burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Saturday at the church.
Hazel Elizabeth Hughes Jones was born October 23, 1913 to Jackson Jackman Hughes and Hortense Harriet Warren in Boone County, Missouri. She had five siblings two brothers Jackson and William who died at birth, and three sisters Frances, Hortense and Jane.
Hazel graduated from the Homer G. Phillips Hospital of Nursing in St. Louis, Mo., and later moved to New York City where she worked for the New York City Department of Health in 1942. While working in New York City she met Edward Jones and they married on December 6, 1947 and had two sons Theodore Hughes and Kevin Edward.
No matter where Hazel was, she was involved in church work, teaching, and witnessing for the Lord. After her retirement Hazel returned to Columbia to care for her mother and returned to the church of her youth, Second Missionary Baptist Church in Columbia.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Frances Dupree and Hortense Parrish. She is survived by her two sons Theodore and Kevin, granddaughters Kelly Jones-Weir and Kristen Jones, and a great-grandson David Delgado, forst nephews John Broadus and Michael Dupree as well as an extended family of nephews and nieces and their families.
