Rev. Dr. C. W. Dawson Jr., 70, of, Columbia, MO went to his Heavenly home on Sunday, November 24, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center after fighting a long battle of IPF, emphysema and pulmonary hypertension. Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the Missouri United Methodist Church at 11:00 AM. Visitation will be from 10-11AM Saturday at the church. The Rev. Dr. C.W. Dawson of Columbia, MO was born in Joplin, MO. He was the first African American to receive a PhD in Philosophy in the history of the University of Missouri in 2006. C.W. was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and was a well-respected Pastor, Professor, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. and a fierce warrior for justice, and equality in the community and abroad.
C.W. is survived by his wife Marie, their 11 children that they reared together, 18 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
C.W is preceded in death by his father the Reverend Clanton Charles Williams Dawson Sr., his mother Gladys Dawson, his sister Quida Mae Richardson, his daughter Makala Dawson, and his nephew Robert Taylor Sr. (Rozanne)
