Winifred Paulette Hill's Obituary
Winifred Hill, 77, of Columbia, MO., passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018, August 30, 2018 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at the St. Paul AME church in Columbia at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Friday at the H.T. May and Son funeral home in Columbia.
Winifred Paulette Ballinger-Hill, 77 of Columbia, Missouri passed away on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at her home surrounded by family. She was born on December 4, 1940, to the late Clara Smith-Ballinger and the late William Leroy Ballinger of St. Louis, Missouri and returned to Columbia, Missouri at an early age with her family.
Paulette loved being a mother and caring for her children, as well as other children in the community. She went out of her way to make life better for others by providing school supplies clothing and pressed hair, for children and ladies. Paulette also was a great cook and baker. She made the best Christmas goodies and placed them in decorative Christmas tins, that would include her knock-out fudge, divine divinity candy, dancing reindeer cookies, jolly Santa Claus cookies and many other baked goods made from scratch, decorated and trimmed with love. She always enjoyed sharing her cooking with family and friends.
Paulette graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in 1958. She accepted Christ at an early age, and was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church of Columbia, Missouri and also regularly attended St. Luke United Methodist Church of the city.
Paulette married Donald Hill and to this union five children were born; Donnetta Keith Hill, Martina Hill, Ronald Hill and Arvelia Hill who she leaves to cherish her memories. With these children, she also leaves to cherish her memory two surviving sisters, Brenda Stevenson (Atlanta, Georgia) and Gwendolyn Ballinger (Columbia, Missouri) and one-half sister, Ernestine Berry (Kansas City, Missouri) and one surviving brother, Whitman (Wanda Sue) Maurice Ballenger (Harbor City, California. She also leaves eighteen grand-children, twenty-four great grand- children and host of family and friends. She was preceded in death by Clara “Baby Sis” Thomas, Roland L. Ballenger and William “Turk” Ballinger.
