William E Robertson's Obituary
William E. Gene Robertson, 87, of Columbia, MO passed away on Friday, January 6, 2023, at his home. Celebration of Life services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023, at the Second Missionary Baptist Church at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be from 12-1 PM Saturday at the church. William Eugene Robertson was born on September 19, 1935, in Columbus Ohio. He was the first child of Beulah Robertson Cole and William H. Robertson. He was a graduate of East High School in Columbus, Ohio. Gene joined the US Air Force and was honorably discharged. He used the G.I. Bill to begin a long and impressive college career. Some of his accomplishments were he was the Editor-in chief at Mahogany Magazine, He was a housing and planning expert for refugees at the United Nations, a professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, Director and Chief Curator at Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Center in Kansas City, Emeritus Professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia and former assistant director and organizer at Northcott Neighborhood House.
Dr. Robertson also studied Health administration and sociology at UMKC, studied Philosophy at the University of Missouri, studied theories and urban planning at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and studied philosophy, sociology and law at Marquette University.
He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved, loyal and committed wife Angela Robertson, two daughters Laura Robertson, Elyce Middlebush (Reginald), two sons Christopher Robertson and Douglas Robertson (Heather)his sister Rena Carol Peterson, two brothers Ronald Robertson and Terry Cole, four grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and his special friends Louis Nunnelly, T. Sharif, Nannita and Frank Varallo, Dr. Julie Middleton and Douglas Simmons.
Gene "Doc" Robertson would want us to remember he represented the words I CAN. His beautiful, committed spirit will forever warm the hearts of all those who loved him. Let us cherish the warm memories.
