Walter Clarence Rowles' Obituary
Walter Clarence Rowles, 96, of Bunceton, MO., was received into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 21, 2016 at 3 PM at Morgan Street Baptist Church in Boonville. The visitation will be held from 2-3 PM at the church.
Walter Clarence Rowles was born May 20, 1919 between Bunceton and Speed, MO. He is the son of William and Dorinda Rowles. He attended Bunceton area schools up to the 8th grade.
He farmed with his eldest brother, Emil Rowles and their father on the family farm which was located between Bunceton and Tipton. He later purchased his childhood home (referred to as the "Other Place") where he resided and raised his family until his death.
He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Bunceton. He was a Sunday School Superintendent, Deacon, and member of the Central District Laymen.
He farmed his entire life, and during his later years, he raised rabbits, donkeys, and loved working on lawn mowers and small motors. He participated in the Bunceton 4th of July parade yearly and even became the Grand Marshall.
He loved boxing, and often bragged about how he could have been a champion light-weight.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 10 siblings (Nannie, Emil, Eva Frances, Zellabelle, William, Wallace, Arthur, Irving, Lottie, and Raymond), one daughter (Letha Rowles), four wives (Dorothy Rowles, Arvelia Stemmons Rowles, Howardette Palmer Rowles, and Elva Jean Johnson Rowles), the mother of his eldest daughter (Carrie Belle Scroggins), three nephews (Earl Crockett, Joe, and Herman Rowles) and one niece (Sophie Hill).
He is survived by eight children; Shirley Maxine McGowan, Todd Drew Jr. (Delores), Delilia Young, Dora Rowles, Waldo Rowles (Carol Ann), Carman Rowles-Bruce, Frank Rowles, and Juanita Hartman (Kenneth). over 20 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, a host of cousins, nieces & nephews too numerous to mention.
