Vicki Waynette Wayland, of Fayette, was born July 7, 1962 to Leona Banks Wayland and Frederick E. Wayland, at UMC, Columbia, Missouri. She was the first born of four children. She was 58 years old when the Lord received her into His arms on February 7, 2021 at UMC, Columbia, Missouri.
She was educated in the Fayette public school system, from which she graduated. She loved going to church. At a very early age she attended the Church of God in Christ where her Uncle Ruben Paige was the pastor. She loved to sing and be on programs. She truly loved the Lord. When her family started attending Second Baptist Church, Vicki attended with them as they studied the Word of God together. She was baptized on May 4, 1975 and continued worshiping until the Lord called her home. She loved working with the youths. The Lord gave her a gift of arts and crafts, which she used to teach God’s Word to the little ones. She worked with the youths in her church as well as in the Mt. Zion Baptist District. Sister Vicki would do crafts all day and also shared her creativity with others in her community.
She worked as a teacher’s aide at the Fayette school system where the students called her “Miss Vicki” because they respected and loved her. Some students even asked if they could go home with her because she made learning fun using her God-given talents. She also worked at the National Garment factory and Fayette Caring Center.
Vicki became a foster mother because of her love for children. She opened her home to care for several children, one of which she prayed that she could adopt. God heard her plea and blessed her to adopt Rachel at the age of four.
She leaves to cherish her memory her mother Leona Wayland, daughter, Rachel Wayland, granddaughter Leondra Wayland, two sisters Jaelyn (Ray) Duncan, and Maryette “Dodie” Wayland, one brother Frederic Dale (Kimberly) Wayland, all of Fayette; one foster daughter Tabbie Poeppe, several foster children and grandchildren, two aunts, Helen I. Clay of Des Moines, IA and Gladys P. Roland of Columbia, MO, two nieces, Alyshia Edgenton of Kansas City, MO and Viola Wayland of Boonville, MO, one nephew Scott Wayland of Boonville, MO, special cousin Cuqrita N. Whitley of Columbia, MO, and a host of cousins, friends and her church family.
She was preceded in death by her father Frederick Wayland, grandparents Mary M. Banks, Cordie Paige, Charlie and Ruby Dameron Wayland, nine aunts and eight uncles.
