Vernon Hockaday's Obituary
Vernon Hockaday, 58, formerly of Slater, MO slept into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday October 17, 2012. A memorial service will be held Saturday November 3, 2012 at 2 pm at St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church in Slater, MO. Visitation will be from 1-2 pm Saturday at the church.
Vernon “Duke” Maurice Hockaday, the son of Cecil Maurice McDonald and Margaret Louise Hockaday Johnson, went to his eternal home on October 17, 2012.
Vernon was born June 25, 1954 in Slater, MO. Vernon was the youngest of three children. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, sister, and brother.
He joined St. Paul Free Will Baptist Church at a very early age. He also went to 2nd Baptist and Powerhouse. Vernon lived in Slater, MO for 18 years where he attended elementary, junior high, and graduated from Slater High School.
Vernon was a licensed chef for the governor in Jefferson City, MO for one year. He also worked at the Hilton from 2004-2008 as a chef.
Vernon left a loving family. He left his daughter Latisha Stapleton and a son Blake Hockaday; he also leaves one sister Marva Craig and a host of nieces and nephews. His beloved grandchildren and a very close friend Shirley Hernon.
