Born Vera Mae Ferguson, this is my story which began August 1, 1936, in Dixie, MO. I was 1 of 10 children born to the Late Nathaniel & Jenny Ferguson.
Growing up my family home was always busy and forever growing. I was my parents' youngest girl, but not their youngest child. My parents and 8 siblings preceded me in afterlife, Charles, Clearance, Elizabeth, James, Loretta, Pete, Rachel & Verlee. Many of my dearest loved ones whom I've missed for years, welcomed me home with open arms and happy cheers. I've also reunited with my late husband, Fred Nickens Jr. My son's, Reginald, Michael & Rodney. Granddaughters, Fredtonya & Kandi, and my great granddaughter, Chrishimia. Imagine the reunions happening in heaven. Surely Goodness & Mercy shall follow me...
I have left behind 1 older sister, Mary Scott, of Kansas City, MO. Although my motherly nature caused many to refer to me as "mom", I birthed 6 wonderful children. Of my children, 3 remain to cherish my memory, Fredetta, VestaMae (Perry) & Flynn, all of Fulton, MO. I'm blessed to say, I'm known as Granny to 18 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. I have countless nieces, nephews, cousins & close friends.
To tell you a little more about my earthly life, I grew up and lived in Fulton, MO. I attended Fulton Public schools, and held a few small jobs, before becoming Mrs. Vera Mae Nickens, a full time mom & housewife. Whether it was my home in the alley on Westminster or Carver Drive, my door remained open to anyone. I was a pillar of my community. My joy came from serving the Lord with my love and care for others. In my latter years, I was fortunate to gain even more family from the staff at the Fulton Nursing & Rehab, who cared for me. In my 86 years of living, I've always loved people, especially my family & friends. I enjoyed spending time with them cooking, eating, playing cards, going to bingo, laughing, and hearing or telling a good story. I will miss sitting in my favorite chair, giving orders, but I'll see you later. My heavenly journey began, Monday, November 14, 2022.
