Sylvia Chew's Obituary
On August 30, 2025, Sylvia Lynn Griffin passed away peacefully at her home in Fayette, Missouri, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born in Boonville, Missouri, in the fall of 1963, Sylvia moved to Fayette in first grade and quickly made it her lifelong home. Fayette became the place where she grew her roots, raised her family, and built lasting friendships.
Sylvia was, above all else, devoted to her family. She was the proud mother of three sons — Ian, Mac, and Ethan — who were her world. Watching them grow into men and begin families of their own was one of her life’s greatest joys. Even more than that, her heart lit up around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Every moment spent with them brought her immense happiness, and her smile said it all.
She found joy in the simple things that brought people together. Her swimming pool was her pride and joy, the heart of countless summer days filled with laughter, splashing, and family gatherings. Sylvia also had a deep love for reading — especially anything sci-fi — and she could often be found lost in a good book.
For 18 years, Sylvia worked as the office manager for Sunderland Trucking, where she was much more than just a coworker. She became the “work mom,” therapist, and loyal friend to many. She approached every role in life with pride, independence, and compassion.
Sylvia will be remembered for her strength, honesty, and unwavering loyalty. She never shied away from speaking her mind, and she always stood up for what was right. She was a straight shooter who left a lasting impression on everyone she met. To know Sylvia was truly to love her. Sylvia’s memory will forever be cherished by her three sons: Ian (Jackie) Chew of Armstrong, MO; Mac (Samantha) Chew of Fayette, MO; and Ethan (Kaitlyn) Chew of Armstrong, MO. She is also survived by her siblings: Pat (FL) Morrison of Centerview, MO; Carol Brewster of Warsaw, MO; Debbie (Mike) Lessley of Boonville, MO; and John Griffin of Fayette, MO. Her grandchildren — Bailey, Abby, Emma, Kennedy, Breken, and Huston — and her
great-grandchildren — Greycen, Kaicen, and Jett — will carry her love forward for generations to come.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emma Hundley and William “Bill” Griffin; her brother, Harry; and her sisters, Linda and Darlene. And Brother In-Law, Howard Brewster.
Sylvia’s legacy lives on through her family, her friends, and the countless lives she touched with her strength, love, and laughter. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten
