Shirley McNeil's Obituary
Shirley McNeil, 81, of Chicago, IL, formerly of Sedalia, Mo passed into eternity on Friday, May 11, 2012 in Chicago. Funeral services will be held Friday May 18, 2012 at Sharon Chapel Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sedalia, MO at 1:00 PM.
Shirley was born September 6, 1930 to Raymond and Bernice Smith in Lincoln, Nebraska. Shirley attended Lincoln Hubbard School here in Sedalia and graduated in 1948 as valedictorian of her class. She continued her education at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Missouri for one year and then transferred to Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Shirley received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She taught school in the Kansas City, St. Louis and Sedalia area as well as other states. Shirley was blessed with two sons, Lowell and Shannon.
She enjoyed working with the American Red Cross and CASA programs here in Sedalia. She became a member of Sharon Chapel Seventh Day Adventist in 1949 where she was very active as an officer and pianist of the church. Shirley played the piano for two other churches here in Sedalia also, Taylor Chapel and Goodwill Chapel.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son Shannon Rice of Chicago, Illinois, two sisters, Gertrude Boggess of Sedalia, Missouri, and Ramona Bass of Carson, California, one niece Alona BoggessSmallwood of Burton, Michigan, two nephews, L.A. Boggess III (Tina) of Sedalia, Missouri and Ronald Boggess (Faye) of Kansas City, Kansas and a host of loving great nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by both parents, Raymond and Bernice Smith, one son Lowell Rice, and two nieces Sherry BoggessMinor and Carol Bass~Davis
