Ruben Smith's Obituary
Ruben Smith, 57, of Columbia entered into paradise on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 16, 2014 at 1:00 pm at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia. Visitation will be from 12-1 Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Ruben Smith was born in Wardell, Mo., on June 9, 1956 to the late Mr. William C. Smith and the late Mrs. Susie Mae Smith. He was the sixteenth of seventeen children.
He received his education through the North Pemiscott school system and worked at the University of Missouri Hospital for 18 years.
Ruben was blessed with a son Jerol Lee and a daughter Tanista Lee who he loved and cherished to death. Ruben was well known by many because he never met a stranger. He enjoyed cooking and doing landscaping. Ruben moved to Columbia and made his home with his brother Billy and his sister-in-law Carla whom cared for him until his death.
Ruben accepted Christ later in his life and got born again under the Spirit of God and made peace with the Lord. He called on the Lord to ease his pain and on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 God heard his cry and released his pain and called him home to glory to rest. His parents four sisters Loretta Reed, Cecil Smith, Floree Smith Hill and Rae Lavern HIggs, four brothers William Smith Jr., Cleothes Smith, James Smith and Samuel Lee Smith and two grandchildren Jay-Yonna Lee and Jerol Lee Jr., preceded him in death.
Ruben leaves to cherish his memory his son Jerol Lee and his daughter Tanista Lee, eight siblings, Dorothy Jean Portwood of Milwaukee, WI., Shirley(Pete) Barbee of St. Louis, Mo., Freddie Lee(Bula) Smith of Hometown, Mo., Donlad(Bobby) Smith of Howardsville, MO, Isaac(Betty) Smith of Cleveland, Oh., Billy(Carla) Smith of Columbia, Mo., Suzette(Floyd) Higgs of Campell, MO, and Larry Smith of Steele, Mo., four grandchildren Justice Carr, LaAnthony Carr, Antajuan Lee and Anari Linear, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
