Rosa L. Burton's Obituary
Rosa L. Burton, 85, of Columbia answered the Master’s call on Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at her home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday October 18, 2014 at 1 pm at St. Paul AME Church in Columbia. The visitation will be held from 12-1 pm at the church on Saturday
Rosa Lee Burton went home to be with the Lord early Tuesday morning. The Lord saw that she was tired. He took her by the hand and led her home.
Rosa Lee Burton was born January 18, 1929 in Columbia, Mo., to the late Hazel Holman Jennings and Leroy Freelon. Rosa’s siblings Johnny and Charles Freelon, Myrtle Ellis, grandson Carlos Kelly and great great grandson Ezekiel Venerable all preceded her in death.
Rosa was a faithful member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church. As a little girl Rosa participated in many church activities such as singing in the choir, church plays and as an active member of Alan Christianne Fellowship. In later years Rosa was highly respected as one of the Mothers of St. Paul.
Rosa worked many years at the University Hospital food service. She was well known for her love of cooking. The way she prepared her salads, banana bread, and turkey tetrazzini. Rosa also worked at the Tiger Hotel, and for many years she worked at Nora Stewart Nursery School, and later for the Foster Grandparents program.
Rosa leaves to cherish her beautiful memories her oldest daughter Donna Faye Venerable Davis (Michael) of Baltimore, MD, Rex (Janet) Freelon, Vicki (Bill) Freelon both of Columbia, MO., and Terry (Jackie) Freelon of Springfield, Mo. She also leaves 12 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 7 great great grandchildren, her sister Shirley Freelon of Columbia, Mo., her brother William (Brenda) Broadus of Chicago, Il., and her church family.
