Rodney Quinn Kelly's Obituary
Rodney Quinn "Rod" Kelly, 67, passed away on Thursday July 19, 2018 at University Hospital. He was born in Columbia, Missouri on August 29, 1950 to John Milton Kelly and Helen Beatrice Rogers Kelly.
Rod graduated from Hickman High School in 1968. He received both his bachelor's degree (1972) and his master's degree (1990) from the University of Missouri, and his Educational Specialist Degree from Central Missouri State University in 2000.
He worked in the Columbia Public School system for 27 years as an assistant principal, teacher, athletic director, and basketball coach. Rod was the radio voice of MU men's basketball from 1975-1989. He, too, broadcasted Columbia College women's basketball, Missouri baseball, and many local high school football, basketball and baseball games.
He devoted many volunteer hours to the Douglass Athletic Association, Kiwanis, and Job Point.
Rod is survived by his mother, Helen Beatrice Kelly, his brother John Carl Kelly (Jacqueline), his significant other, Valerie Shaw, and two sons, Daniel (Natalie) Hoge and Alex Hoge.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 27, 2018 from 5:00pm — 8:00pm at Broadway Christian Church. The Memorial Service will be at 1:00pm on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Missouri United Methodist Church.
