Robert Charles (Cheese) Johnson 65, passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2023.
Robert was the second born of five children to Robert and Shirley Jean Johnson in Marshall, MO on January 30, 1958. He worked at United Refrigeration for over 15 years before transitioning into owning and operating his own business. He had a passion for helping people and he was able to do that within his lawn care and construction company. Often removing brush or taking down a tree for an elder was a highlight of his day. He created positions to help whomever was down on their luck. Always willing to teach his trade and skills to a young man thriving to be a better person. He used his own life to sacrifice in making another better.
Robert was known everywhere he went for his infectious laugh and jokes. He loved fishing, outdoors activities and could out whistle and out hum any humming bird. His singing could definitely earn him a spot in the heavenly choir.
Robert attended Marshall Senior High and was known for his athletic skills. He ran track, played football and was known on the court where he coined the name “Cheese”. In his words, he smiled at his defenders before dunking on them. Verdict is still out on the validity of that story.
Robert wore many titles: husband, dad, brother, son, hard-worker, and, perhaps his most well-known title, friend. He was a friend to all he met. Children loved his positive energy, his funny stories and family and friends alike, depended on his words of wisdom.
Robert was preceded in death by his his father Robert, his mother Shirley Jean, his son’s, Robert Jr. and Mandrell, his brother Tony, his grandparents that raised him, (Clifford and Annabelle) and a host of favorite aunties, uncles, cousins and friends.
Robert leaves behind to cherish his loving memories, his wife of 22 years, LaTanya Johnson whom he fathered his last born, Meelandra Adkins (Kansas City, MO), two sons of love, LaTrail Erby (Kansas City, MO)Camara Young (Fayetteville, AR). His first born, Passion (Jeff) Saunders (Columbia, MO), Channcy (Ahmed) Mohammed (Ghana, Africa), Curtis Workoff (Marshall, MO), J’Shon Johnson (Sarah) (Des Moines, IA), Zachary (Tabitha)Johnson (Chillicothe, MO), Rhazell Johnson (Columbia, MO), Nyoka Johnson (Jamaal Jordan) Marshall, MO). His sisters, Brenda (Ricky) Crutchfield, Vicky (Ricky) Burnside, Lolita Johnson, Monee’ Maupin.
