Rita K. Kelly, 60, of Columbia, MO. Passed away on Friday, April 13, 2018 at University of Missouri Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 21, 2018, at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11-12PM Saturday at the funeral home.
Rita K Kelly passed on April 13, 2018 at University of Missouri Hospital. Although petit, Rita was a strong and courageous person, she fought the battle with cancer for 27 years. Rita born on June 24, 1957 in Topeka Kansas to the late Charles Henry Kelly and Roberta Stevens Kelly. Rita moved to the state of California at an early age while receiving her education before returning to Columbia Missouri in the 1980’s where she was employed as a cook for several University Sororities and later took her talent of cooking to T & H’s Lounge where she loved to serve Columbians for 10+ years before retiring to enjoy family and friends.
Rita was survived by Sisters Arlina Graves, Donetta Patterson (Frank Ingham) , Brothers: Donnell Wright ( Deidra Crawford), Charles Wright ( Chante’) Rita had a stepdaughter Cassandra Hunnington and four grandkids, Dariantay, Kendra, Trey and Jalen. Rita also leaves behind her special friend Jerry W. Richmond and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family.
Rita was proceeded in death by parents, 3 sisters and 2 brothers and a very special friend Teddy Bentley.
Rita loved spending time with family and friends. She was most known for her delicious cooking. Rita loved cooking for friends and events. She was known for her attention to detail for good macaroni and cheese and enjoyed frying fish. Spending time with kids was her passion, Although Rita didn’t have kids, and she was definitely the village mom and was well respected by all the kids and parents. Rita’s smile was contagious as well as her bright colored outfits. Rita not only made sure she was matched, but her jewelry, shoes and purses had to match as well. As we mourn the loss of a very special person, we are assured that she is in a better place.
The family of Rita’s wishes to thank University Hospital and their staff for their effort and dedication. Wright and Kelly family would also like to thank family and friends for their support and prayers.
