Richard Delano Hatton, age 64, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away on April 22, 2026, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Richard was born on September 23, 1961, in Columbia, Missouri, to Rubyn Key and Clementine Key (Hatton).
He spent many years working as a cook in various kitchens, most recently at the St. Louis University cafeteria. He also held fond memories of his time working as a floor technician at the University of Missouri alongside his father, a chapter of his life he often spoke about with pride.
Richard had a deep love for sports and could often be found watching his favorite teams, especially the Kansas City Chiefs and Mizzou football and basketball. He enjoyed life’s simple pleasures—good games, good conversations, and time spent with those he cared about, often with a beer in hand. Above all, he valued connection and never missed an opportunity to talk, laugh, and share stories with family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over 16 years, Brenda Hatton; his stepdaughter, Alyssabeth Bartow of St. Charles, Missouri; his brothers, Ruben Hatton of Arizona, Cedric Key (Shelly) of Minnesota, Marcus Key of Columbia, Missouri, and Anthony Key (Kelly) of Columbia, Missouri; and his sisters, Kathy Kenney of North Carolina, Cheryl Glasgow of Columbia, Missouri, and Twyla Key of Columbia, Missouri. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who were like family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rubyn Key and Clementine Key (Hatton), and his sister, Priscilla Hatton.
Richard will be remembered for his laid-back spirit, his love of conversation, and the way he made those around him feel like family.
