On September 9, 2015, at Boone Hospital Center and Clinics, Columbia, MO, the earthly life of Louise Brown came to an end, thus beginning her eternal life in Heaven. She was 91-years “young”.
Pearl Louise Jackson was born July 13, 1924 to James and Pearl Lue (Wise) Jackson. The youngest of five (5) children, Virgil, Helen, Frances, and James, she preferred her middle name, using “Louise” as her first name throughout her lifetime. Louise graduated from Sumner High School, Boonville, MO in 1943.
Louise was a long-time and dedicated member of St. Matthews Chapel AME Chapel, serving first as a Stewardess in her younger years and eventually a Steward for the remainder of her life. “Miss Louise”, as she was affectionately called, enjoyed participating in Sunday School, Bible Study and Vacation Bible School. She was faithful in her love of God and her church, illustrated by being awarded “Mother of the Year” in 2011.
In her working life, Louise worked at Kemper Military School, Green Gable, Selwyn Shoe Factory and Toastmaster, where she ultimately retired. Highly valuing her independence even after retirement, she continued to work part-time for Charles Eubanks, “tidying up offices” alongside with her long-time friend and neighbor, Emma Freeman, for Doctors Wiley and Maryellen McVicker.
In 1961, Louise married Richard L. Brown, who later became a respected civic leader in Boonville, serving as the City’s first African-American City Councilperson for over two decades before retiring in 1991. The couple share two daughters, Toni (Carl) Covington, Boonville, MO and Tracy Roper, Roanoke VA.
Louise is survived by her two (2) daughters; two (2) nephews, Mundaka Lee (Ithaca, NY) and Jay Linn Jackson (Kansas City, MO); four (4) grandchildren, Tawny Brown (Boonville, MO), Chandra Roper (Lexington, KY), Sean Roper (Lexington, KY), and Keithan Roper (Boonville, MO); six (6) great-grandchildren, Eric “Ricky” Warren (Boonville, MO), M’Jai Watkins (Boonville, MO); Keisean Roper (Boonville, MO), Jasean Roper (Boonville, MO), Keylan Roper (Boonville, MO), Allana Roper (Boonville, MO), along with a host of extended family.
Louise reunites with her parents, husband siblings, along with extended family and numerous friends, taking her “tailor-made spot” next to her Heavenly Father.
