Nancy Drew's Obituary
Nancy Drew, 83, of Boonville, MO, passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 8, 2023 at her home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 21, 2023 at St. Matthew AME Church in Boonville. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 1-2:00 PM at the church. Nancy (Harper) Drew was born in Boonville, Missouri on January 3, 1940 to John and Grace (Wright) Harper. She was a graduate of Sumner High School in Boonville and of Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO.
Nancy worked for many years for McDonnell Douglas/EDS in Columbia and St. Louis, MO, and later Miami, FL and Dallas, TX. She retired in 1999, and returned to Boonville where she worked for the Boonville Housing Authority.
Nancy was an active, life-long member of St. Mathew’s Chapel African American Methodist Episcopal Church. She served as chairperson for the church finance committee and was a member of the Board of Trustees. She was also a member of the Carol Sue Crittenden Women’s Missionary Society as well as the St. Mathew’s Chapel Lay Organization.
Nancy had a kind and generous heart, using her God-given talents to make lap blankets for elderly members of the church. She enjoyed making pillows and quilts for family and friends, and making special occasion quilts for her church friends.
Nancy supported her community, spending time volunteering as a bell ringer for the Salvation Army, and at Cooper County Memorial Hospital as a gift shop attendant. She was a member of the Fabric Fanatics Quilt Club, and the Boonville Women’s Club.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Grace Harper, and her only brother, John James Harper. She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Michael Drew of Boonville, MO, one granddaughter, Jessica (Joshua) Hale of Baltimore, MD., one grandson, Johnathan Tyler Drew of Columbia, MO, and one great-granddaughter, Bria Hale. She will also be missed by many cousins, relatives, and very dear friends.
