Mitchell Eugene Perry, 55, of Boonville, slept into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, July 16, 2016, at Cooper County Memorial Hospital in Boonville. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016, at St. Matthew AME Church at 1:00 PM, visitation will be from 11 AM -1 PM Saturday at the church.
July 16, 1961 Mitchell Eugene Perry, a bouncing bubbly boy, was born to Esther Mae (Ellis) Perry and the late Charles Leon Perry. God took Mitchell into His arms on July 16, 2016. We weren't ready for him to leave but God saw otherwise. Mitchell was baptized at the tender age of 2 years old at St. Matthew AME Church Boonville, MO.
His early school years began when his mother took him to Head Start and the late Virginia Stemmons had a special love for Mitchell. While growing up, as a young child on Water Street, he would walk to High Street doing little odd jobs to make money to buy Christmas gifts for others. He played alongside many of his childhood family and friends then and remained good friends today. He attended Boonville Public Schools all but one year that he went to Van Horn High School in KCMO and lived with his sister Rhodella until the end of that school year then returned to his "county bumpkin" town which he
LOVED SO MUCH. He went to work at the Holsum Bakery and enlisted into the military a short time. He returned to the bakery where he was employed 29 years until his health began to fail.
His family requested he be transferred to Barnes Jewish Hospital where he was for three months. His sister Rhodella remained there with him as other family and friends took time to drive his mother and other siblings to St. Louis to visit him. It was during this time through his illness that he was told he would never walk again. By the Grace of God, Mitch fought and beat the odds after being brought home and nourished back to health and recovered with the help of family and friends. Mitchell received the "Miracle Award" during the time of one of the Perry-Lewis Family Reunions. Through it all he still came to church in his wheelchair up until the time he returned and walked...INTO...the church and the congregation was filled with much joy and tears. He had such a beautiful smile and laugh and one of the utmost loving persons to all. He served as a faithful Trustee doing the works of any maintenance, grass cutting, sign changing, church cleaning, looking out for the pastors. He would bring fish, garden vegetables he grew and was always just a phone call away for whatever was needed and he would do it. Mitchell helped many along the way and loved to provide fish that he would cook for many church events.
He loved his life as well as his family and friends, especially his mother. He would take the time to do whatever she needed day in and day out. Fishing was a part of his favorite sports and he was a competitive athlete. He was the best at playing horseshoes and washers with cousin Butchie Briscoe and softball with his uncles and cousins and was half of a two man bowling team with his dad. Mitch involved many of his friends, nephews, all kids and cousins especially Bobbie Jones during his fishing times. He spent much time out on the boat with his buddy Chris Hazel. however he never told all of his secret places to catch fish because he wanted to save the biggest prize for himself. Mitchell often found "peace - quite - & serenity" out on the banks of the rivers and lakes. He had a specialty for baking brownies for anyone at anytime.
The family has to say he Loved his church and remained a faithful member until his passing.
Mitch leaves to cherish his memories: his loving mother Esther Mae Ellis Perry Boonville, MO, sisters Rhodella (KCMO), Charlotte (KCMO), Matonia (Boonville), Viola Marie (Mesa AZ), brothers Michael (Evelyn) German, Charles (Brandy) Boonville, six children Donovan, Faith, Mitchell Jr., Shaynelle, Taisha, Aric and three grandchildren Ariaun, Jodeci, Micah, three uncles George Perry, Albert Pierce, Bill Vincent, six aunts Sebelia Black, Mary Perry, Martha Vincent, Virginia Lewis, Sally Lewis, Maxine Perry, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends as well as the "adopted" brothers and sisters that call his mother ""Mom".
