Mildred A. Brooks' Obituary
Mildred A. Brooks, 96, of Hazelwood, Missouri, formerly of Columbia, MO passed away on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at Town and Country Rehab and Nursing in Town and Country, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 11, 2021 at St. Luke United Methodist Church at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11-12 Friday at the church.
Mildred Allene Brooks was born on September 9, 1924 in Columbia, Missouri to Mabel Madison and R. Thomas Harvey and died on June 2, 2021.
She attended and graduated from Frederick Douglass High School in the spring of 1942. On November 27, 1942 she married George C. Brooks.
In her work career, she held positions that include Division of Family Services Administrative Assistant and Secretary for the Department of Forestry at the University of Missouri-Columbia, from which she retired.
Her other endeavors encompass various religious and civic entities, such as: her lifelong membership to St. Paul AME Church (Columbia), it's choir and several committees and boards; her 40+ year membership to the Amos Johnson Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star where she served in various capacities; United Way, March of Dimes, and Nora Stewart Nursery.
Mildred, known, particularly to her family, as Allene, was preceded in death by her parents, her husband (George Brooks), two sisters (Ida M. Harvey, Dorothy Porter), three brothers (Charles Newsome, John Bass, George Freeman), a granddaughter (Chelsea Brooks).
She is survived by: daughter Sharon Miller of Hazelwood, MO; son Darryl Brooks of Kansas City, MO; 3 grandchildren (Scott Miller, Collin Brooks, Chandler Brooks); 7 great grandchildren (Jerrell, Brooke, Scott, Michael, Cordell, Caleb, Crystal); 1 great-great grandchild (Micah).
