Michael (Micah) Ned Howard was a beloved husband, proud father and dutiful son. He was born on May 21, 1970 in Portsmouth, Virginia. He passed away at the University of Missouri Hospital and Clinics from health-related illness on the evening of December 24, 2011.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend, Willene Lolita Lucas-Howard and four children: Patrick Cole Howard (Heather) of New Franklin, Missouri; Paris Monet Pipes (Lolita) of Boonville, Missouri; Nicholas Alexander and McKenzie Nicole Howard (Robbin) of Tipton, Missouri. He is also survived by his parents, Charlotte and Darold Howard, of California, Missouri, 3 brothers David (Kathy) Howard of Boonville, Missouri, Robert (Kelly) Howard of San Diego, California, and Nathaniel (Leticia) Howard of California, Missouri and his Aunt Vickie (Mom) and Uncle Mel Mayes of Roswell, New Mexico. He also leaves behind five nieces, Hannah, Amanda, Chelsea, Emilyn and Phoebe and three nephews, Sean, Jordan and Zane, and his cat, L.T. (Lieutenant Dog). He is preceded in death by his brother, Patrick Howard.
He had a passion for the military and weapons. He was also an avid history buff and wanted to pursue a later life career in this venue. For a short time, he was an online student at Columbia College until his health and vision forced him to withdraw from school. He was a no-frills kind of guy whose motto was “Look sharp. Be sharp. Feel sharp.” His nickname was Sarge. He also loved his prized cowboy boots and his collection of his employment badges and tattoos. He celebrated his four children and his wife, Lolita through body art.
Micah was baptized and believed in God. In recent years, he was a member of New Life Christian Center in California, Missouri. He believed strongly in duty and obligation. He had a career that was built on that. As a young adult, he served his country and joined the army. He was employed by the state of Missouri in the penal system and his last position with them was as a Sergeant for the Department of Corrections. He was a Missouri lifetime certified Firearms Instructor. He was proudest of working at the Missouri State Penitentiary in Jefferson City, Missouri. He also worked for the State of Kansas penal institutions. He also served as a Police Officer for the city of New Franklin, Missouri and partnered through employment with U.S. Federal Marshalls in Kansas City, Missouri.
Taking a break from law enforcement and corrections, Micah moved to a place he came to call home, Roswell, New Mexico. He worked with his uncle as a foreman for Mayes Electric. He worked on home construction, city contracts, electrical jobs and oil rig contracts. His favorite thing to do in Roswell was to take long walks in the dessert and work on the oil rigs. It was there that he reconnected with his friend of 30 years, Lolita, who would soon become his wife. He would often call her during these long walks and describe the scenery of the place they had planned to one day live. Their current residence is in Boonville, Missouri.
“Goodbye Sarge: my best friend, truest love and soul mate. I love you and we will be together again one day.” W. Lolita Lucas-Howard
