Melroy John Thompson's Obituary
Melroy John Thompson, 87, of Jefferson City, passed peacefully Thursday, March 28, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born February 16, 1932, to Johnnie Agnes Martin and Richard Truman Thompson.
Melroy attended schools in J.C. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1953-1961. After his military service he returned to J.C. to reside and work.
In 1975 he married Janice Gonzales. Mel and Jan spent years together working on wood projects, needle pointing quilts, cross stitching pictures and clothes, working on secret sauce recipes, and their greatest creation daughter Monica. Janice proceeded him in death in 1999.
After retiring from a long career as a City of Jefferson employee. He enjoyed much deserved fishing time, cheering on his Cardinals and growing prized tomatoes.
In his twilight years he and Bonita Elsberry added blackberry and gooseberry bushes to the list and enjoyed endless hours of laughter with the grandchildren. She proceeded him in death in 2015.
Melroy is survived by daughters Monica Thompson and Dana Gonzales, Jefferson City. Grandchildren Zachariah Gonzales of Oahu, Hawaii. Diego Olaguez, Malia Thompson, and Pa'Shawn Thames of Jefferson City. Kailey Thompson and Alexis Amerson of St. Louis. Brothers Donald (Dink) Thompson and Harley (Butch) Thompson of Jefferson City. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Milo Thompson, Kenneth Thompson, sisters Jeanette Hedglin and Shirley Cook.
A celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 16, 2019 at 12:00p.m. Military honors at 12:30p.m. immediately following mingle, meal and reminiscing at McClung Park Pavilion.
