Melissa Howeth's Obituary
Melissa McEwen Howeth, age 78, passed away peacefully in Columbia late on the evening of April 11 surrounded by her family. Melissa was a devout Christian who enjoyed reading, learning, nature, cooking, tea, rocks and gardening.
Melissa received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from the University of Missouri in Columbia and her Master’s degree in Education with a Reading Specialty from the Northeast Missouri State Teachers College, now known as Truman State University.
Melissa worked first as a kindergarten teacher in Mo., and then as a reading educational consultant for the state of Iowa. She also served as a lecturer in the education department at Huron College and the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Melissa presented papers on rural education at numerous educational conferences and internationally in Israel and Japan before retiring to Horsham, Pa., and Virginia Beach, Va.
Melissa is survived by her four children: Roseanne Corley McKee from Bartlesville, Okla., Dalissa Lee McEwen Reeder from Chalfont, Pa., John Dale McEwen, II, from Chowchilla, Ca., and Holly Howeth from Chalfont, Pa. Melissa is also survived by her brothers William (Bill) and Porter Moss, both from Hunnewell, Mo., and her sister Mary Virginia Burris from Denver, Co. Melissa has six grandchildren: Elijah, Josiah, Jonah, Chaya, and Eve Shalom Reeder, children of Dalissa, and Nicholas Sanchez, son of Roseanne.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Green Acres Cemetery under the direction of the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia
