Mary Elizabeth Thompson's Obituary
Mary Thompson, 88, Of Columbia, MO., passed away on Saturday December 29, 2018, at her home. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 12:00 PM at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia. The visitation will be from 11-12 PM Friday at the funeral home.
Mary Thompson was born December 29, 1930 in New Florence, Missouri, the daughter of Frank and Kate McCoy Thompson.
Miss Thompson accepted Jesus Christ and was a long time member of St. Paul CME of Mexico, Missouri. She was also President of the NAACP until she relocated to Columbia, Missouri.
Miss Thompson was employed by several nursing facilities and later self-employed in private nursing for the Morris family, Dr. Taft family and the Ethel Pearl family.
Miss Thompson moved to Columbia, Missouri and continued private nursing. Shortly after her arrival she became a private nanny for the Dr. Harrison/Daniels family. She continued with this family until she retired in 2014.
Miss Thompson loved God, and she loved her family. She also loved gardening and beautiful flowers. On Saturday mornings, you would find her cooking, listening to her old favorite gospel albums and singing. She would wash her clothes and hang them out to dry in the spring breeze. Miss Thompson loved the simpler things in life.
She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish precious memories three children Daina Faye Williams (Paul) and Jerome (Ada) Thompson both of Columbia, Missouri, and Elder Bobby Thompson Lucas (Evangelist Andrea Lucas) of Omaha, Nebraska, and one sister Shirley Thompson of Memphis, Tennessee, six grandchildren Cornellia Williams, Teresa (John) Reese, Denise (Doc) Lucas Winfrey, Ryan, Erron, and Jamall Lucas, great grandchildren Lorenzo and Kendall Williams, John and Jarod Reese, and Jay and Marquay Fluker, and four great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and three sisters.
