Mary Delia G. Romero was born January 16, 1928 in Bisbee, AZ., the daughter of Manuel Gutierrez and Refugio Salazar. She married Jose Maldonado Romero on June 1, 1946. While working as a waitress she met the love of her life and as we know him Joe and there started a union of the Romero’s and the Gutierrez that spread for generations. This bond still binds us today.
Through the years their house was a place of gathering and always you could find her cooking and visiting with family, friends , and neighbors.
The door was always open and her house was always ready for one or more of us. So many weekends and summer nights were spent gathered there, in the house or the backyard. A meal was always offered and a smile was the first thing you saw. So many memories and stories to tell and all are because of her.
Anyone who was lucky enough to have been near her was quickly welcomed with love and a warmth that immediately made you feel like she had been waiting for you, she knew no strangers. She had a amazing sense of humor and a sparkle in her eye when she was trying to pull one over, ask anyone who played cards with her.
She also loved with everything she had and made every one of us feel like we were the most important thing just when you needed it most. No matter her age You could never pull the wool over her eyes ,she always knew if something wasn’t right with anyone she knew and loved. We are thankful for the things she taught , the love she gave , the sense of family and home she carried with her and for the memories she gave all of us. She spent so many years being the glue ( krazy glue I’m pretty sure, there’s records somewhere that she’s held together with this stuff ) that’s kept us all bound together and her strength and love will continue to bind us for decades to come. She has left a legacy of love and family that will echo through us all and we are all better people because of it.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son Dennis and Joan Romero of California, her daughters Veronica Cowan of California, and Esther and Tim Danner of Missouri, nine grandchildren Rhonda, Armando, Doug, Selena, Brooke, Renee, Carlos, Lucas, Zachery, nineteen great-grandchildren Felicia, Vincent, Wyatt, Remington, Kinser, Aryia, Weston, Kaelyn, Lauryn, Mackenzie, Dylan, Cassandra, Myles, Chloe, Geo, Jeremy, Zachary, Brian Jr., Sophia, Kylie, Ann, Mackenna and Savanna, and two great-great- grandchildren, Ella Marie and Amelia Jane, and her sisters Carmen, Mary-Lou, Lydia, Sylvia, Grace, Sara, three brother-in-laws Raul, Johnny and Elio and over two hundred nieces and nephews.
Delia was preceded in death by her husband Jose Maldonado Romero in August 2006, and her eldest daughter Nellie Cordova in December of 2004, her parents, two brothers Robert and Manuel and four sisters Emma, Esther, Adeline and Gloria.
