Mary Lane's Obituary
Mary Lane, 87 of Columbia entered into rest on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at University of Missouri Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at Urban Empowerment Church at 2pm. Visitation will be from 1-2pm Thursday at the church.
Mary Lane entered into this world on September 18, 1926 in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Winston Lane and Virginia Adams.
She received her formal education in the Kansas City Public School District where she obtained her high school diploma. She later moved to Columbia, Mo. Mary was employed by the University of Missouri as a cook for various fraternities. After 38 years of service she retired in 1991. After her retirement she was employed by Progressive Missionary Baptist Church as a cook for their daycare.
Mary Lane who was affectionately known as; “Ms. Wee Wee”, and the “Candy Lady’, serves as an ambassador to her community by serving a range of families.She was known for her giving spirit and her tell it like it is attitude. If you ever graced her home in need you would leave with a full stomach, a care package and wisdom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her Godmother Cordelia Walker , her daughter Cordelia Lane, 2 brothers and 3 sisters and her cat Sam.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children Marland(Ramona) Lane, Anna Lane, Kathy Lane, Bill Lane, and Charles(Shiral) Lane all of Columbia, Mo. Her loving step children Brian Estes, Victoria Wright and Michelle Estes all of Columbia, Mo., Karen Estes-Johnson of Elk Grove, CA., Rodney Estes of Jefferson City, Mo., Debra Vanburen of Springfield, Virgina, Hope Graves of Rolla, Mo., Mark Graves, of Boonville, Mo., 32 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, her goddaughters Beverly Hatton and Raquelle Partee and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
