She was born on March 5, 1943 in Marshall, MO to Elzie Napier, Sr. and Ethel Bell Napier. A member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church for many years, she found joy and purpose in her faith and community.
She had a successful career as a nurse at the Marshall Habilitation center, where she made a difference. She worked there until she retired at the early age of 57. She enjoyed doing tax returns for many of her friends and neighbors. She also helped the Marshall Homeless Shelter and Services organization. Her willingness to assist others and her generosity will be missed.
Mary had a love for quilting and sewing, creating beautiful works that brought warmth to her family and friends. She was an avid traveler, enjoying adventures with her loved ones. She also enjoyed gaming, reading, and watching game shows. She spent a lot of time in Chicago with her grandchildren, her favorite city was New Orleans.
She loved making family meals, fried chicken and carrot cake were her specialties. She never hesitated to deliver a plate to a friend or neighbor. A true sports fanatic, Mary could be found passionately cheering for her Kansas City Chiefs on any given Sunday. She would then call her favorite son-in-law to critique the game. Mary never shied away from a spirited debate and only sometimes would she concede.
Mary was a great wife for over 60 years, a wonderful mother, and endlessly proud of her grandchildren. She was a fierce advocate for her family and her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family and beloved grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her son, Michael Brown of Marshall, her daughter Marla Brown Carter (Dr. Donald) of Chicago, Illinois and the grandchildren she adored, Michelle Carter, Brandon Carter, and Deyton Brown. She also loved her four furry granddogs Karma, Halle, Izzy and Boomer.
