Martha Goodwin's Obituary
Martha M. Goodwin, of Sedalia went to be with her Lord on high on Thursday December 26, 2013 at Lafayette Regional Medical Center in Lexington, MO. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 4, 2014 at 12 pm at Wards Memorial Baptist Church in Sedalia. The visitation will be held from 11 am – 12 pm at the church.
Martha Marie Robinson-Goodwin was born to Leo Robinson and Margaret Pool on September 13, 1936 in Prairie Home, Missouri. Both parents were natives of Boonville, MO.
Martha was the devoted mother and grandmother to Loraine Brown- Cornelius (Deceased), Anthony “Tony” Brown (Deceased), Lena Brown (LexingtonMO), Sadie Brown (Deceased), Alvin O’Dell Brown (SedaliaMO), Dwight Staten (Deceased) and a host of grandchildren/great grandchildren.
As the eldest child of a family of 14 children, Martha stood tall as she assumed the role of assisting her parents both in labor and the caring for her siblings as the family transitioned from the Boonville MO area to SedaliaMO. Martha loved people and developed many deep and enduring relationships during her lifetime. She will especially be remembered for her lasting love of family and friends. Martha shared life with many but gave endlessly to her sisters Nannie Peterson (Lompoc, CA), Lula May Lester (Deceased), Sadie Turner (Deceased), Sarah Montgomery (Deceased), Cora Dogan (Ft Washington, MD), Elizabeth Bentley (Kansas City, KS), and Claudette Green (Elgin, SC), Barbara Bentley (Deceased), and Resheila Bentley (Deceased). Martha also shared life with her brothers Floyd Jr. Bentley (Deceased), John Bentley (Deceased), Charles Bentley (St Louis, MO) and Robert Bentley (Belleville, IL).
Martha was blessed with loving grandparents, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends who all helped her live life to the fullest. She will truly be missed by all those her life touched. As a member of WardsMemorialBaptistChurch, Martha was a devout believer in Psalm 23:
“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. He restoreth my soul.”
