Marilyn Duncan's Obituary
Marilyn Duncan, 79, of Higginsville, MO, passed away peacefully at Riverdell Care Center, Boonville, MO, on January 14, 2026. She was born on 8/24/1946, in Hattieville, AR.
She raised her two children in the Higginsville area, then later in life attended college at Central Missouri State University earning a bachelor’s degree in Social Work. This was a proud moment in her life which she conveyed to others on a regular basis. Marilyn loved to garden and was known for her ability to grow many things. One time, she grew cotton in her garden, which landed her in the local newspaper.
Marilyn loved spending time with her grandchildren, had a large collection of antique dolls and loved baking. Her family members grew to expect Marilyn’s famous chocolate chip cookies at family visits. Marilyn was a fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, a tribute to being raised in Arkansas, something she would share with others when given an opportunity.
Marilyn was a friend to many and would strike up a conversation with about anyone. Her larger than life personality will be missed by many.
Marilyn is survived by her children, Karrie Wood of Higginsville, MO, and Todd Fleharty (Jennifer) of Boonville. MO, five grandchildren, Adam Dulaney, Kelcie Wood, Kristen Fleharty, Ryan Fleharty, and Makayla (Jaylin) Willis, five great grand-children, Jasmin Wood, Addyson Huff, Paysley Fleharty, Winter Willis and Cameron Willis, two sisters, Priscilla (Joe) Keeton, and Debra Hedge, of Arkansas, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Garnett and Pearl Pettit of Hattieville, AR, and brothers Gary Pettit of Atkins, AR and William Pettit of Hattieville, AR.
The family is hosting a Celebration of Life memorial for Marilyn at the Grace United Methodist Church located at 16 W 15th Street, Higginsiville, MO 64037 on Thursday, February 12, 2026 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
