Margaret Sottolano's Obituary
Margaret Sottolano, 93, of Columbia, in the early hours of Saturday,June 4, our beloved matriarch joined so many of her departed loved ones (including her cherished mother who she lost at the tender age of 5) when our Lord Jesus called her home. A mass will be said for Margaret on Saturday, June 18th at 11 AM at St. Thomas More Newman Center in Columbia.
In Loving memory of Margaret Mary Sottolano born May 22, 1923, in Philadelphia, PA the daughter of James and Margaret Mary Cavanaugh Murphy.
Margaret was a devout Catholic, She was an avid reader and loved music and dancing (especially the Jitterbug and Polkas). She loved to travel be it by plane, train, automobile or even the occasional boat ride. She always spoke of the natural beauty of North America and in her life visited all 48 continental states, plus Canada and Mexico. Margaret was one of the rare people who never met a stranger and has even been referred to as the "roaming ambassador" of our family. After parting company with someone she met for the first time, both would feel like they just left a dear old friend. She loved cooking and entertaining and was fond of saying "If I'm going to cook for one, I'm going to cook for fifty...". Family and friends were everything to Margaret. She was a devout wife of 57 years and leaves a legacy of four children, 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, five sisters, and her brother, nieces, nephews, and dozens of dear friends.
We would like to thank all of her caregivers and healthcare professionals who have helped during her latter years. We would also like to give special thanks to the "Philly family" for all of their love and support.
To know Margaret was to love her and though she will always be in our hearts, She will be deeply missed. May you rest in paradise sweet angel.... Amen.
