Margaret Hord's Obituary
Margaret Hord, 78, of Mexico, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Pin Oaks Nursing Center in Mexico. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, st Lockewood Park Baptist Church in Mexico, MO, at 12:00 PM. Visitation will be from 11-12PM Saturday at the church.
Margaret Lillian Hord, of Mexico, MO, departed her earthly journey at the age of 78, on Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Pin Oaks Living Center with her loved ones by her side.
Margaret was born November 27, 1947, to Arnett & Maggie Hord in Jefferson City, MO. Both of her parents preceded her in death.
She was raised and educated in Mexico, MO, attending the historic Garfield School and graduating from Mexico Senior High School. Margaret would go on to take a few courses at Lincoln University, in Jefferson City, MO, before entering the workforce.
Margaret learned the importance of being a dedicated worker when she worked in her parents’ restaurant as a young girl. She had a successful career in the production industry working at National Refractories Company for 25 years, Summit Polymers for 11 years, and Brookstone Distribution Center for 13 years until she retired in February of 2019.
Accepting Christ at an early age, Margaret was a faithful and active member serving on the Usher Ministry at Second Missionary Baptist Church. She would later join New Covenant Community Fellowship Church in October of 2022, where she served well and used her love of numbers for the Finance Ministry.
Margaret liked watching tennis and never passed up the opportunity for a friendly game of cards. She loved crocheting items for her family and enjoyed watching the Food Network, often finding inspiration for new recipes, as baking was one of her greatest joys. During the holidays, family and friends eagerly anticipated Margaret’s famous homemade chocolate fudge – rich, smooth, and made with love. Each bite seemed to melt in your mouth.
Margaret leaves to cherish her memory a very special friend, James Carter of Columbia, MO. Left to celebrate her life are three sons and one daughter, Sherdell Hord of Las Vegas, NV; Darren Hord of Mexico, MO; Juan Hord of Columbia, MO; and Cassandra Hord of Mexico, MO. She is survived by one bonus son, Timothy Crum of Columbia, MO, and leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by her niece and nephew, Robin Flowers of Mexico, MO, and Alvis (Mona) Hord of Glendale, AZ; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Anna Mae Hord and Camelia Turner, and her sister in love, Bobbye Anne Galbreath, two great-nephews, Anthony “Tony” Belcher and Donnie Roland.
Margaret loved spending time with her family and friends and will be missed by everyone who knew her.
