Maggie Louise Buckner was one of those rare and precious souls who brough light and joy into the hearts of those who knew her.
Maggie, the daughter of Maggie Thompson and Clarence Payne was born August 7, 1928, in Columbia, MO. Maggie attended Douglass High School and married William Robert Buckner Sr. in 1960. Maggie worked for the University of Missouri and the Columbia Public School System as a Home School Communicator at Benton Elementary School; she retired in 1993 after being an exemplary employee for 18 years. Maggie became a member of the United Pentecostal Church after giving her life to Jesus Christ in 1980 and remained a faithful member until the day she was called home; she was also a loving Sunday school teacher for approximately 20 years.
Maggie enjoyed doing word puzzles, collecting salt and pepper shakers and ducks; she also had a knack for writing poems. She really loved getting all dressed up for church and going to various lady’s luncheons and teas. Without a doubt, the one thing she loved above all others was worshipping and living for the Lord. She wasn’t shy about telling you the truth and nothing but the truth and loved being the center of attention.
Maggie’s husband, five brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter preceeded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories, one brother Charles Allen (Carolyn), Columbia, MO; three daughters, Sheila Gavin, Yvonne Clark (Tommy), and Margaret Buckner all of Columbia. Two sons Hilo Stanley Smith (Theolia), San Antonio, TX and William Robert Buckner Jr (Mary) of Columbia. Fifteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; one step-daughter Debra Sue Hickem, and many nieces and nephews.
