Mable Walton's Obituary
Mable Walton, 75, of Lexington, MO went to be her Lord on high on Wednesday February 12, 2014 at Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington. Funeral services will be held on Saturday February 22, 2014 at 1 pm at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington, MO. The visitation will be held from 11 am – 1 pm at the church.
The sunrise of Mable Hortense Walton was on Thursday April 7, 1938 in Lexington, Missouri. She was the first-born child of Douglas T. Walton and Mabel M. Olden-Walton.
“Hortense”, as she was affectionately called, accepted Jesus as her personal Savior at the age of 12, and was baptized at the Second Baptist Church in Lexington under the spiritual leadership of Rev. H.C. Haynes, where she attended faithfully until her home going.
Hortense attended Douglas School in Lexington from 1944 to 1955. Upon integration in 1956, she attended Lexington High School. She was certified as a nurse’s aide in 1963. She was employed at the Lexington Memorial Hospital as a Nurses Aide, Laboratory Technician, Nursery Aide and Central Supplies Clerk for several years; Lake City Army Ammunitions Plant; and at Places Department Store briefly before returning to Lexington Memorial Hospital in 1974. She was employed with Lafayette Regional Health Center (formerly Lexington Memorial Hospital) for 30 years retiring in 2004.
She enjoyed spending time and traveling extensively with her family and church family.
Hortense was a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church in Lexington for nearly 64 years. She was a member of the choir, Faithful Few and the Women’s Missionary Union; and attended Sunday School, Prayer Service and Bible Study faithfully. She was also a member of the Central District Missionary Baptist Association, where she was a Life Member of the Women’s Missionary Union, and volunteered as a cook for the District Youth Camp for several years.
She was also a member of the social organization, “The Socialites”
After a long brave battle with cancer, the sunset of Mable Hortense Walton came on Wednesday February 12, 2014 at the Lafayette Regional Health Center in Lexington.
She leaves to cherish her memories a daughter Carol S. Hannon (Everett), Warrensburg, MO; two sons John Kent Walton (Beth), Torrance, CA; Reginald C. Walton (Tracey), Marshall, MO; four grandchildren Andrae Hannon (Kristina), St. Joseph, MO; Le’Andrea Hannon-Lewis (Brandon), Blue Springs, MO; Reagan Walton and Skylar Walton, Marshall, MO; one great grandson Hayden Lane Hannon, St. Joseph, MO; two brothers Earl R. Walton and Charles T. Walton, Lexington, MO; brother-in-law Emanuel Mason, Jr., Lexington, MO; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a dear friend Harriet Mason.
Her parents, brother Johnnie “Joe”, and sisters Rosemary, Maxine, Selina and Joyce “Sue” preceded her in death.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to Second Missionary Baptist Church, Lexington, MO.
