Lois Farris' Obituary
Lois Estelle Farris, 88, of Columbia, Missouri, entered into the Master’s paradise on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, in Frisco, Texas. Services will be held Saturday, April 6, 2019, at 1pm at Second Baptist Church in Columbia. Visitation will be held from 11am to 1pm at the church on Saturday.
Lois was born February 10, 1931, in Mexico, MO, the daughter of Ocie and Etha (Grant) Carter. Lois graduated from Mexico High School and, during her high school career, was crowned football homecoming queen. She married George T. Farris on August 15, 1953, in Mexico, MO, and they raised their family in Columbia. Lois worked in the Outreach Department at Columbia Public Library for thirty-seven years until her retirement.
Lois confessed her faith at an early age. She was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church where she served in the Deaconess Ministry, in a missionary group, and was part of the inspirational choir. As a woman of faith and the heart of the Farris family, Lois loved traveling, serving Sunday dinner, dancing, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Lois leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Donna (Jerry) Ellison of Columbia, MO, two sons David (JoAnn) Farris of Dallas, TX, and Michael (Michelle) Farris of Columbia, MO, a nephew/son Ronnie Carter of Columbia, MO, six grandchildren: Lakeia Clark of Frisco, TX, Jamaro Clark of Columbia, MO, Jovan (Billy) Overshown of Waco, Texas, Garlanda Williams of Allen, TX, Daveana (Christopher) Turner of Columbia, MO, Jordan Farris of Atlanta, GA, and six great-grandchildren Jaylen Hayes, Jayce Williams, Riley Turner, Corbin Turner, Hendrix Overshown, and Beckham Overshown. Along with a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years George T. Farris, infant daughter Cassandra L. Farris, her parents Ocie and Etha Carter, four sisters and seven brothers.
