Lewis B. Cross' Obituary
Lewis B. Cross, of Columbia went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm , on Friday, September 14, 2012 at St.Luke’s United Methodist Church with Rev. David Ballenger officiating, with burial in Simpson Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM on Thursday at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home in Columbia.
Lewis B. Cross was born on May 5, 1926 in Stephens, MO., the son of Eddie G. Cross Sr. and Amanda McGuire Cross.
Lewis was a passionate man who enjoyed people and farming. He worked as a bricklayer for the majority of his life. You can take the man out of the country, but you can not take the country out of the man! In his spare time he enjoyed walking around the farm, sitting on his front porch and enjoying all that nature provided as well as having fun with his friends. Later in life he gave his life to Christ at Simpson Chapel A.M.E. Church under the pastorate of Rev. John Simpson.
Lewis leaves to cherish his memory three daughters Venita Hutchen( Marvin) of Garland , TX., Marthella Hutchen of Dallas, TX, and Crystee Walton of Grand Prairie, TX, three sons Van Hutchen of Fayette, Mo. and Lewis Hayes and Hadley Hayes(Nedra) both of Jefferson City, Mo. He is also survived by one brother William Cross of Columbia, Mo. six sisters Clarissa Jones of Aurora, CO., Lena Mae Norfleet of Columbia,Mo., Irma Heafling of Bentonville, AR., Maggie McDonald, Sue Wanda Cross and Velora Walkowicz all of Columbia,Mo. four grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, one special cousin, Robert B. Cross, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, relatives and other friends. He also had two dedicated personal attendants, Winfred Smith and Perllean Turner both of Columbia, and a special niece Lena D. Warren of Columbia. Mo. He was preceded in death by both parents four brothers and two sisters.
