Leroy Jackson's Obituary
Leroy Jackson, 89, of Columbia, MO, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at his home. Services will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2023, at 2:30 PM at the Summerville Funeral Home in Salisbury under the direction of the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home. Masonic services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday with visitation from 130-230 st the funeral home. Leroy Jackson, 89, of Columbia Missouri, formerly of Dalton Missouri. Died February 16, 2023, in his home. Leroy, was born May 19, 1933 in Dalton, MO the son of Cloyd and Martha (Woods) Jackson. Leroy was the youngest son of 11 boys and 5 girls which made up this proud Jackson clan. He attended school at Dalton Vocational High School until the 11th grade. Leroy worked on a farm for several years. In 1950 Leroy worked for the Santa Fe railroad for 7 years. On September 22, 1956, he married Joyce E. Finnell. They resided in Dalton Missouri for a few years after marriage then in 1960 he was transferred to the Wabash Railroad at which time they moved to Columbia, Missouri. Later in the 1960’s he studied and became a carpenter and worked in the field of construction for 47 years until he retired. Leroy was also a 40 year plus in the Masonic lodge, and member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge in Columbia, MO.
On April 27, 1964, Leroy and Joyce had their first and only child, Christal Jackson. He also has one granddaughter, Keianna Jackson and one great granddaughter Kaylani Young. They always brought joy him and of course as most grandfather do, he spoiled them.
Leroy was a member of St. Luke Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and loved to cook when company came to the house and at family reunions. He loved his family so very much! Whenever anyone needed anything, he was always there to help out in anyway he could.
Leroy was survived by his daughter Christal Jackson, granddaughter Keianna Jackson and great granddaughter Kaylani Young, and host of nieces, nephews, cousins.
Leroy is proceeded in death by his mother Martha (Woods) Jackson, Father Cloyd Jackson, brothers, Russell Jackson, Danny Jackson, Richard Jackson, Chauncey Jackson, Herbert Jackson, Calvin Jackson, Roman Jackson, Verdell Jackson, Udell Jackson, sisters, Ann Marie Jackson, Inez Jackson, Martha Louis (Jackson) Arnold, Olivia Jackson, Kathryn Jackson.
