Leodeous Clark Sr.'s Obituary
Leodeous Clark, Sr. was born on February 9, 1945, to Hattie and Bennie Clark, Sr. in Waterproof Louisiana. He was the youngest of 6 children: Samuel, Mary, Cleveland, Enzie, Bennie Jr. and Leodeous.
Leodeous, better known as Lee, lost his parents at the age of 5 and was raised by his older sister, Enzie, and her husband, Kary Parker who lived in Chicago. He attended John Marshall High School located on the west side of Chicago and graduated in 1963. From 1967 to 1968, Lee served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received a 1st Cavalry Division Airmobile Vietnam Combat Certificate, an Air Medal, a Purple Heart Medal, and a Bronze Star Medal for his courageous deeds and sacrifices. Lee was honorably discharged in August 1972 and went on to be employed as a Production Manager at Oscar Mayer/Kraft Foods for 35 years. In addition, while working the day shift at Oscar Mayer, Lee went to night school and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1980.
Lee married Jane Tyler on August 23, 1968, and they remained married for 56 years until Jane’s passing on October 2, 2024. The couple had three children: Jennifer, Leodeous Jr. and Oliver Clark. Lee was an avid reader and immensely enjoyed science fiction. He loved watching sci-fi shows such as Star Trek, Star Gate, Star Wars and Babylon Galactica. As a strategist, Lee loved playing chess and checkers and at one point opened a Chess Club in downtown Chicago. He was a great provider and deeply loved his family which he demonstrated by caring for his children and later in life, taking on the role of caregiver for his sister, Enzie and her husband, Kary, as well as his wife, Jane, after she suffered a stroke in 2018.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and all of his siblings. He is survived by his three children: Jennifer ClarkWilliams (and husband Ben Williams), Leodeous Clark, Jr. (and wife Zondra Clark), Oliver Clark (and wife Brittany Clark), his granddaughter Mercedes Purnell, grandchildren Jessica and Joseph, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins from as far north as Chicago to southern Louisiana. Lee was an amazing husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, son and grandfather. He will forever be cherished and missed by all of those that loved him.
