Lawrence H. “Sonny” Estes, 78 of Fayette entered into rest with his heavenly father on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Boone Hospital Center. Funeral services will be held on Saturday January 11, 2014 at 1 pm at Linn Memorial United Methodist in Fayette. The visitation will be from 12-1 pm at the church on Saturday.
Lawrence H. (Sonny) Estes departed this life Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, MO. He was 78 years of age.
Lawrence was born July 6, 1935 to the late Julius C. Estes and Florence I. Williams in Columbia, MO. He was united in marriage to the late Mary Louise (Tindall) Estes on October 24, 1958. He was a member of Log Providence Baptist Church in Columbia, MO.
Lawrence graduated from Douglass High School in Columbia, MO. After graduating he joined the Army and served for two years. After the Army he returned to Columbia and started working at Perry Chevrolet (now McCosh Chevrolet) in June 1961. He left for a brief period and returned to Perry Chevrolet in August 1974 and he retired in 1997. If you knew Lawrence he could sit at home doing nothing. So he continued to work part time at McCosh until he parted this life.
Lawrence enjoyed watching his kids, grandkids and great grandkids playing sports. He was always present on the sidelines or in the stands and was sure to brag about their accomplishments. Lawrence is also remembered as an influential Little League baseball coach.
Lawrence leaves to mourn his passing three sons: Rodney Ferguson of Columbia, MO, Lawrence Estes, Jr. (Sharon) of Chula Vista, CA and Charles Estes of Las Vegas, NV. Six daughters: Carol Ferguson of Columbia, MO, Doris Ferguson of Tulsa, OK, Laurie Estes of Columbia, MO; Marilyn Estes Nevels (Carlous) of Fayette, MO, Mabel Estes of Kansas City, KS and Mary Lou Estes of Lee’s Summit, MO. A special friend Ruth Ann Jones. Two brothers: Darrell Estes and Steve Estes of Columbia, MO. Three sisters: Julia Estes, Rosetta Davis (Willie) and Betty Estes all of Columbia, MO. Brother-in-law Estill James Tindall (Susie) and Sister-in-law Josephine Tindall. 29 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces and cousins.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, his wife, three brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
