Rev. Lawrence Butler's Obituary
Rev. Lawrence Butler, a devoted pastor and servant of God, passed away on October 8, 2024, at Legendary Nursing Home in Marshall, Missouri. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 1:00 PM at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, visitation will be from 12-1PM Saturday at the church. Born on November 18, 1942, in Blackwater, Missouri, to Richard Butler and Ella Mornett Williams, Rev. Butler dedicated his life to ministry and faith.
Ordained as a minister in 1976 in Wichita, Kansas, Rev. Butler's passion for spreading the gospel led him to pastor numerous churches throughout his life, including New Zion Missionary Baptist and Macedonia Missionary Baptist in Wichita, Kansas, Redeemer Missionary Baptist in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, St. Joseph Missionary Baptist Church in Wewoka, Oklahoma, and Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church in Marshall, Missouri. In addition to his ministry, he worked as a Bus Driver Trainer in Wichita and provided security services in Milwaukee.
Rev. Butler liked keeping up with the Dallas Cowboys and Kansas City Chiefs. He would always ask his daughters what time the Cowboys played or tell them how bad they were doing.
Rev. Butler leaves behind a lasting legacy, cherished by his children: Marsha Napier-Butler of Cedar Hill, Texas, Amber Butler-Darnell (Preston) of Wichita, Kansas, and Sheila Butler of Marshall, Missouri. He is also survived by his brother David Wilson (Jodi), five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Mary Wright and Mattie Overton, and six brothers: Richard Butler Jr., James Butler, Terry Leon Butler, Linwood Butler, Edward Butler, and Don Butler.
Rev. Butler's unwavering faith, dedication to his community, and love for his family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His life of service and ministry will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
