Larry D Wooden's Obituary
Larry D. Wooden, 66, of Columbia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 19, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Saturday August 29, 2015 at 11 AM at Second Missionary Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM on Friday, August 28, 2015 at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home.
Larry Don Wooden was born in Poplar Bluff Missouri on June 28, 1949. He was the 9th child born to Bill Wooden and Clarissa Hill Wooden. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, Raymond Wooden, Lawrence Wooden, Robert Wooden, William Wooden, and Billy Wooden. One sister Helen Wooden Young.
Larry attended Wheatley Elementary School and Poplar Bluff Senior High. He attended Lincoln University in Jefferson City Missouri. Larry played football in high school and college. He was later inducted into the Poplar Bluff Sports Hall of Fame for Football in 1986.
Larry was a lifelong member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Incorporated he was initiated in 1969 at Lincoln University.
Larry became a member of the Rising Sun Lodge #164 F & AM P.H.A. in 1980. He received his 32nd degree in Queen City Consistory #109 in 1981. In 1990 he became the Worshipful Master of the Rising Sun Lodge. Larry was also a member of the Dorsey M Russell Chapter #4 of the Holy Royal Arch Masons.
He also had many interest and amongst those were fishing, hunting, and hanging out with his friends and grandchild.
Larry retired from the United Parcel Service - UPS after serving 27 dedicated years.
Larry Don Wooden departed this life on August 19, 2015 at the age of sixty-six. He leaves to cherish his memory his loving daughters Natalee Thornton (Ronald), Shannon Michele Wooden, granddaughter Sasha Michele Thornton, three sisters LaVerne Brown, of Atlanta, Georgia, Shirley Wooden Vaughn (Cleveland) of Omaha, Nebraska, Hope Gibson of Shreveport, Louisiana, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
