Kater Gatlin, 78, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Parkside Manor in Columbia. Visitation will be on Saturday October 26, 2024, from 2-3PM at the H.T. May and Son Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Rock Island National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois on Monday, November 25, 2024, at 1:00PM.
Kater Gatlin, 78, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Parkside Manor in Columbia, MO. Born on February 14, 1946, in St. Louis, MO, Kater was the beloved son of John J. and Rosa Ross Gatlin.
Kater was known for his love of cooking and his passion for listening to 1970s music, which brought him great joy throughout his life. He married the love of his life, Sandra Cade, who survives him at their home in Columbia, MO.
Kater leaves behind a family who will cherish his memory, including his wife Sandra, his daughters Tessa Thompson of Florida and Millicent Rorvig of Minnesota, his stepdaughter Shashana Akers of Columbia, MO, and his stepson Ralawndo Akers (Paige) of Columbia, MO. He is also survived by his sisters Gwen Gatlin of Illinois and Rosemary Burell of St. Louis, MO, his sisters-in-law Vivian Doughty of Columbia, MO, and Faye Singleton of Moberly, MO, and his brothers-in-law James Cade of Moberly, MO, and Joseph Staten of St. Joseph, MO. Kater was a proud grandfather to eight grandchildren: Antonio Carpenter, Kierra Akers, Ben Monroe, Tavion Thompson, Maia Davis, Tristan Akers, Zaya Akers and Akilah Davis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa Ross Gatlin and John J. Gatlin, his stepfather Sonny Ross, his son Joaquin Perez, and his sister Gloria Camp.
Kater’s warm heart, love for music and cooking, and devotion to his family will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who knew him. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
