Joyce Mae Jackson's Obituary
Joyce Mae Jackson, 76, of Warrensburg, passed away on Saturday, November 12, at Research Medical Center in Kansas City. Services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Ward Memorial Baptist Church in Sedalia. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church. Burial will follow immediately thereafter at the Syracuse Cemetery, in Syracuse, MO. Joyce Mae Jackson 76, of Warrensburg, MO passed away on Saturday November 12th at Research hospital in Kansas City, MO. She was born to Herbert and Julia Jackson on September 17, 1946, in Syracuse, MO. She attended grade school in Syracuse, MO and Harrison grade school in Tipton, MO. She graduated from Tipton High School. She joined Prairie Grove Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Nelson Coleman,Tipton, MO at the age of eight and remained a member until her passing.
Joyce obtained a cosmetology degree in 1966. Soon thereafter, she began working at Genevieve’s Beauty Salon in Eldon, MO. She eventually went on to open her own salon called JJ’s Beauty Shoppe which was open for fifteen years. She then had the opportunity to move and work in Sedalia, MO. While in Sedalia, Joyce obtained an associate degree from State Fair Community College. Thereafter, Joyce started her second career as a social worker at Missouri Valley Action Agency, in Sedalia, MO. She worked there until she retired after 27 years of service. Joyce truly loved being a social community activist and working with children.
Joyce was loved by many and was always surrounded by friends and family. One of Joyce’s driving principles was giving back to the community. She did that through her job at Missouri Valley and through other various community endeavors such as the “Bread ministry” at her church and gathering school supplies for children going back to school. These are just a few of many!
Joyce loved to gather with her friends and family, especially with her sisters and nieces, whom she had a special bond.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Julia Jackson. Also, four brothers and one sister, Herbert Jackson, Donald Jackson, Bobby Jackson, Billy Jackson, and Catherine Collins. She is survived by two sisters, Julia Henderson of Grandview, MO, and Georgia Williamson of Kansas City, MO. Along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. Joyce will be greatly missed by all.
