Joyce Haynes' Obituary
Joyce Haynes, 83, of Atlanta previously of Higginsville, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at her daughter's home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM at the Second Baptist church in Lexington, MO. The visitation will be Thursday from 9-10 AM Thursday at the church. Mrs. Joyce Goode Haynes, age 83, was the daughter of the late Lee P. Goode and Easter E. Goode. Raised in Petersburg VA, Joyce grew spiritually and was a faithful member of Tabernacle Baptist Church along with her parents and siblings. Joyce met the love of her life Robert (Bob) Haynes who was serving at Fort Lee VA and after his honorable discharge he moved back to Higginsville and Joyce relocated to Missouri where they married. She is preceded in death by herhusband of 52 years, six brothers – Lee Goode, Jr., Henry Goode, Robert Goode, Samuel Goode, Joseph Goode and Philip Goode: three sisters – Mildred Goode -Wright, Mary Goode-Greer, Gloria Goode-High and both parents.
In 1982 Joyce began her servanthood with Central District Missionary Baptist Association of Missouri as Assistant Recording Secretary of the Central District Parent Body.
She was a Life Member of the Central District Women’s Missionary Union, and over the years served in many capacities in the Auxiliary. In addition, Joyce served as Chairperson of the Resolution Committee in Central District.
Joyce was a member of the Central District Congress of Christian Education. She served as Youth Camp Director, Instructor, and most importantly the Dean of Christian Education. She was also the recipient of the James and Mildred Shipley Award for her dedicated service.
A dedicated member of the Minister’s, Wives, Widows and Deaconess Auxiliary, Joyce served as the Auxiliary’s Chaplain, Treasurer, and Financial Secretary.
Joyce also served as a member of the Central District Music Auxiliary as the First Soprano Section Leader, Assistant Music Banquet Chairperson, and Treasurer.
An avid supporter of the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Missouri and the National Baptist Convention USA, Inc. she attended conventions and board meetings throughout the United States. She was a student of the Sunday School Publishing Board COPP (Certificate of Progress Program) working towards her Dean Certification.
Joyce earned a degree in Social Work from Central Missouri State 1994-1995 and worked in the areas of Higginsville, Concordia, etc. She spent one year in Texas with FEMA serving the community there. She retired after fifteen years of service.
She was active in her community church at St. Paul Baptist Church in Higginsville Missouri and later joined Second Baptist Church in Lexington Missouri in 2019 where she spent many years serving her church family.
As a member of the Second Missionary Baptist Church she received her Minister of the Gospel license soon after becoming a member. She was also a member of the Mother’s Board.
She served faithfully on the Ministry Team preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ on the third and fifth Sundays of each month. She was a supporter of Prayer Service and Bible Study. She also served as co-chairperson of several major days at Second Baptist and always made sure that each mother received flowers on Mother’s Day. She also served as Sunday School Superintendent.
She was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and the Faithful Few Auxiliary.
Joyce passed away in Marietta Georgia surrounded by the love of family and hospice nurse. She will be laid to rest beside her late husband Robert Haynes in the Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville Mo.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her memories: three daughters – Joanna Scott, Phyllis Haynes and Jeannie Waugh (Trevor), four sons – John Smith (Shawn), Blythe Smith, Wendell Haynes and Rowan (Tracy). Fifteen grandchildren, seven great-grands and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
