John W. Briscoe's Obituary
John W. Briscoe, 92, of Columbia, Missouri, slept into the arms of Jesus on Saturday, August 5, 2017, at The Bluffs in Columbia. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11 AM at Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield, Illinois. A visitation will be held from 10-11 AM at the church.
John William Briscoe was born on February 6, 1925 in Montgomery City, Missouri. He was raised by loving and devoted parents Mandy Wiser and Henry Briscoe.
He was raised in Wellsville, Missouri where he grew up as a child with his only brother Alton Briscoe. As he grew in to adulthood he wanted to make a difference and importance in is life and he left and went to the Army to 1943-1946 and he was honorably discharged.
John returned home and then he left and began his journey to Los Angeles, CA where he began is employment as a bus driver. While he was in LA, he met his loving wife Delores Briscoe. They lived in LA until 1968 then they left and moved to Springfield, IL. In Springfield IL, his employment was Pillsbury Mills and Springfield Bus Company where he retired from both. He was also an active member of the American Legion and a Brother Mason.
John and Delores Briscoe were both longtime active members of Calvary Baptist Church where John was involved in Brotherhood and Men’s Choir.
John leave to mourn his passing and cherish his memory his children Darryl Briscoe (son), Kenny Briscoe (son), Randall Lewis (son), Francine Duncan (daughter), Tracie (daughter), Alphonso (son-n-law), Derick (son), and Angie (daughter-n-law), as well as 18 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.
Preceding his death was his mother Mandy Wiser, father Henry Briscoe, brother Alton Briscoe, wife Delores Briscoe, son John William Briscoe, granddaughter Tracy Sims, and grandson Michael Gales.
