Jesse Marvin Cowans, 87, passed away today at Southampton nursing home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Second Missionary Baptist Church in Fayette at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM Saturday at the church.
Jesse Marvin Cowans, 87 entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 25, 2018 at Southampton Nursing Home in Columbia. MO.
Jesse Marvin Cowans was born to Charley and Millie (Talbert) Cowans on April 6, 1930 in Fayette, MO.
Jesse attended school in Howard County, MO. He accepted Christ at an early age, and was a member of the Second Baptist Church in Fayette. Jesse was united in marriage to Virginia Wayland Cowans on October 5, 1957.
Jesse served as a police officer for city of Fayette. He was also an assistant Veterinarian to the late Dr. Benson. Jesse was bestowed the honor of Grand Marshall for the 2016 Juneteenth celebration in Fayette.
Affectionally known by many as “Chief”, Jesse always enjoyed a good, hearty home cooked meal, sitting on the Square visiting with friends and enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren. They were the joy of his life.
Jesse leaves to cherish his memory four daughters Brenda (John) Beard of Columbia, MO, Ruby (Damon) White of Kansas City, MO, Sarah (Lawrence) Cowans-Holt of Fulton, MO., and Wanda Cowans of Fulton, MO, two sons Edward (Awanda) Williams of Columbia, MO, and Jessie Williams of Fayette, MO. He also leaves to honor his memory three sisters, Louella Hines of Decatur, IL., Delores Nelson and Sara Cowans of Fayette, MO. He also leaves to continue his legacy a wealth of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sisters, Millie Robinson, Alice Cravens, Anna Cowans and Virginia (Nellie) Jackmon. He also joins his brothers, Jake Cowans, Charlie Cowans and Gilbert Cowans and his grandson, Edward Lee Cooper.
