James Sterling Thrower's Obituary
James Sterling Thrower, 58 passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the University Medical Center in Columbia Missouri. Visitation will be held from 3-4 PM on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at St. Luke United Methodist Church. James was born on March 21, 1964, to Timothy Elijah Thrower and Mary Katherine Hegler Thrower. He was proceeded in death by his parents a half brother Charles M. Benford and his nephew D’Tarius Williams Thrower.
James graduated from David H. Hickman High School. He loved sports. He ran track and field, and his specialty was hurdles. He also enjoyed long distance running, jogging as well as weightlifting. He was featured in the Columbia Daily Tribune newspaper for body building at Gold’s Gym. He worked in the hospitality and food service industry for several years (Columbia Missouri and Tampa, Florida) until his early retirement.
Survivors include siblings; Sharon Diane Ekpe of Arkansas, Jacqueline Thrower (Troy) of Texas, Debra Thrower of Florida, Elijah Timothy, Michael Thrower, and Stephen Thrower (Nikki Wray), all of Columbia Missouri. Nieces; Stephanie Hunter (Anthony) of Texas, Dena Williams of Georgia, Ashley Benford of Texas, LaKayla Prince, Sha’Day Maurer, and Chioma Thrower, all of Columbia Missouri. Nephews; Anthony D. Thrower of Florida and Stephen De’Von Maurer (Danielle) of Columbia Missouri. One aunt, Betty Mae Garcia of Texas, and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
