James Maurice Overton's Obituary
James Maurice Overton, 60, of Boonville, MO, passed away on Sunday, December 25, 2022, at Riverdell Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at H.T. May and Son Funeral Home at 2:00 PM. Visitation will be from 1-2:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.
James Maurice Overton was born on April 20, 1962 in Boonville Missouri. He was the 4th child of Lois Violet Ellis Overton and Chap Overton Jr. Maurice was also the 9th child in the Hemingway and Overton Family. His Grandparents were Chap Overton Sr., Edith Overton and Charles Ellis.
James Maurice Overton was his official legal name, but he was called by many nicknames by his family and friends. Such as, "CaliCoup", "Reese", "Cali", "Uncle Reese", "Mod" and "Mo". Maurice loved his family, especially in protecting his nieces. Maurice loved and looked up to his oldest Sister Debbie the most! When Debbie would arrive in Boonville, Maurice would be the first person she would see. Maurice would say, "Sis I'II be with you until you leave town". Maurice also liked bragging on how good his brother Richard was in sports. Although he once proved he could throw a hard ball harder than Richard! Maurice really loved his Aunt Mae and her family. One of the things he liked the most was riding his bicycle all over town. He once stated, "I can ride that bike sleeping"! Maurice never met a stranger that he didn't like. He was good hearted and would give up his last. If you really knew Maurice, you know he loved his American Honey Jack Whiskey.
Maurice attended Boonville Public Schools. He was in the ROTC Program. He also ran track for the Special Olympics and medaled. Maurice was a very hard worker. He worked odd and ends jobs in Columbia, Mo., New Franklin, Mo., and Boonville, Mo.
Maurice leaves to cherish his memories one sister Deborah (James) Thomas, Rex, Ga., two brothers Glenn (Jennie) Hemingway, Kansas City, Mo., and Richard (Jackie) Overton, Topeka, Ks. Aunt Ethel Overton Roland Tuggle, Kansas City Mo. And a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. Maurice is proceeded in death by his parents Chap Overton Jr., Lois Overton, his Grandparents Chap Overton Sr and Edith Overton, three brothers, Lloyd Hemingway, Charles (CW) Hemingway, Norman Overton, and three sisters, Sheila Hemingway, Edith Overton and Rosita Overton.
